Mysore, circa 1988. There was a character my Granpa would talk about called Whistle Huchcha (Whistling Madman in Kannada). Never saw him. All i heard was that he would dress up in 70s funky attire, ride on buses (gratis) and whistle away popular tunes. He meant no harm, I was told.
Here's a compilation of songs made famous through their whistling . (GnR,McFerrin, Scorpions etc.). DJ Riko - Whistler's Delight

It is said that people from Tamil Nadu can instantly point out a Palakkad Iyer, the moment he starts speaking. It is often said that a Palakkad Iyer prefixes most sentences with an 'Oh...'.
More than 100 women danced naked in a remote mountainous village in Nepal hoping the gods will be pleased and give them rain. The women gathered at a local school, smeared their faces with black powder and danced naked last week at Darbang village. "People in this area believe Mahadev (hindu god) will be happy and provide rain once women perform such a nude dance," The Kathmandu Post quoted a local teacher as saying.
This, i guess, is not possible in india due to the mumbai laws against dancing girls. And it's raining in mumbai.
I hope the arrival of Greg Chappell would be good for VVS. Having lived down under, he is highly regarded there. One bloke at the pub offered me a trade of 1 VVS for 2 Bret Lees during the 2003-04 tour.

Palakkad or Palghat is one of the 14 districts of Kerala state in South India. Palakkad was a part of Malabar district during the British rule. After independence, it became part of the Madras state. It was made part of Kerala state when the state was formed. Palakkad is the gateway to Kerala due to the presence of 'Palghat Gap', in the Western Ghats.
The Tamil Brahmins of Palakkad require special mention. They migrated from Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu centuries back, on the invitation of the then ruler. They were settled in 96 villages called Agraharams in different parts of the district. They are also basically priests. They brought along their rich cultural heritage, Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam dance among them.
